Verité Paper Explores Challenges in Formal and Informal Labor Migration to Thailand
Verité conducted desk and field research to map out how jobseekers in Cambodia, Myanmar, and Lao PDR learn about jobs in Thailand, weigh risk factors and choose among the routes open to them. Through interviews with people on or connected with this journey, a picture emerged of a highly complex arena in which the needs of jobseekers, job-finders, employers, regulators, facilitators, and profiteers meet.
Verité Addresses Gender Inequity & Forced Labor in the Seafood Sector
Seafood supply chains are complex and rife with vulnerability to human trafficking risks and other labor problems (see infographic below). This past March, Verité attended Seafood Expo North America in Boston, speaking on panels about gender equality and social responsibility in supply chains.
Verité Influences Major New Federal Policy on Human Trafficking; Announces Release of Research Series on Commodities and Forced Labor
At a special session today of the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, President Obama announced several new Administration policies to fight human trafficking. One of these, an Executive Order Strengthening Protections in Federal Contracts, ensures that goods purchased by the U.S. Government—the largest single purchaser of goods and services in the world—are not tainted by trafficking via exploitative labor recruitment practices at any point in the production and supply chain. The Executive Order will apply to all federal contractors and subcontractors—both in the US and worldwide—and provides federal agencies with additional tools to foster compliance.
