As part of our ongoing efforts to provide public resources to advance the cause of ethical labor recruitment, Verité launched a free, interactive, e-learning course in 2022: “Nice Products: A Story of Corruption, Recruitment, and Forced Labor,” made possible by generous support from Humanity United.

The module explores how public corruption in the foreign worker recruitment process renders migrant workers vulnerable to debt bondage – a form of forced labor – and how the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) can be used as a tool to combat these abuses in global supply chains connected to the United States. The links between public corruption and the exploitation of foreign migrant workers are examined through the fictitious but realistic case study of Nice Products, a manufacturing company in Malaysia seeking to hire foreign workers.
