An in-depth study examining the realities of forced labor risks in Bolivia’s Brazil nut, cattle, corn, and peanut sectors—industries central to rural livelihoods yet vulnerable to exploitation.
This report investigates how poverty, isolation, and informal labor systems contribute to forced labor across four key agricultural sectors in Bolivia. Drawing on extensive field research, it identifies indicators such as debt bondage, deceptive recruitment, and abusive working conditions that particularly affect Indigenous and rural workers. The findings highlight the structural factors—land concentration, weak oversight, and dependence on intermediaries—that perpetuate vulnerability. Through detailed case studies, the report offers insights for policymakers, businesses, and advocates seeking to strengthen protections and build fair, transparent supply chains.
