This position will be central to the organization’s global efforts to build awareness, understanding, and action on labor rights issues across the public, private, and civil society sectors.
The Director of Communications will be a passionate team builder, eager to work with Verité’s dedicated staff and external stakeholders to cultivate and advance the organization’s public profile and influence with target audiences, including companies, governments, civil society organizations, media, and consumers. They will lead Verité’s global communications strategy and be responsible for external communications and content marketing across multiple platforms and channels.

Verité is seeking to hire a contractor with extensive research, research tool development, and worker interview experience within agricultural supply chains in Cameroon as part of a research project on labor conditions in the country’s cocoa sector. The research project has a focus on understanding the recruitment, hiring, and working conditions of farmers and farmworkers on small, medium, and large cocoa farms, including understanding the risk of forced labor and child labor. The research study will include supplementary desk research, development of a research plan, adaptation of research tools for the Cameroonian context, expert interviews, farmer and workeri interviews, and a draft and final research findings report.
The research aims to be carried out in October 2026, and the final report will be due in January 2027.

The primary focus of this engagement, and of the final report, is to understand the current characteristics of human and labor rights risk, including child labor and forced labor, in the First Mile of the cocoa supply chain in up to two (2) cocoa-producing regions through in-field research. The field research topics will include but are not limited to collecting information on farmworker demographics, farmworker recruitment dynamics (including use of labor intermediaries), hiring and employment practices, working conditions (including health and safety, wages and hours, and discrimination), and farmer production costs and income. If migrant workers are determined to be present in the workforce, the research should seek to understand migrant workers’ places of origin, means and costs of recruitment, and conditions of work. Research findings should be able to be disaggregated by gender and migrant status at a minimum, but also ideally by farm size (e.g., small, medium, large) and worker type (e.g., household, permanent, seasonal, daily, sharecropper, etc.).
The contractor can conduct supplementary desk research to inform the field research plan, as necessary, such as to identify local experts and key informants for interviews, to glean insights on localized labor dynamics in the region(s) of study, etc.
