A comprehensive study tracing labor exploitation across Bangladesh’s shrimp supply chain—from fry collection to processing.
Through hundreds of worker interviews, this report reveals systemic vulnerabilities within Bangladesh’s shrimp industry. It identifies indicators of forced labor, including debt, withheld wages, coerced overtime, limited mobility, sexual abuse, and child labor. The findings show how poverty, informal recruitment, and gender inequality create cycles of exploitation in shrimp farming and processing. While the sector is vital to Bangladesh’s economy, the study underscores the urgent need for stronger labor protections, ethical sourcing, and corporate accountability to ensure that seafood exports are free from abuse.
