As part of a multi-year project supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, Verité and the International Organization for Migration are arranging a study tour and roundtable discussion in Qatar for a newly formed association called the Association of Skilled Migrant Worker Agencies of Kenya (ASMAK), which is made up of Kenyan private employment agents (PEAs) that are committed to ethical recruitment practices.
The goal of the study tour and roundtable discussion will be to introduce and review new policies, procedures, and initiatives emerging in Kenya and Qatar to promote ethical recruitment, and to discuss common roadblocks, challenges, or emerging opportunities.
The itinerary includes introducing the ASMAK initiative to key stakeholders in Doha such as employers, embassy personnel, and labor attachés based in Doha, as well as the newly-opened International Labour Organization office in Doha, and other civil society groups. On Wednesday June 27, 2018 Verité will facilitate a roundtable event to bring these groups together in Doha. Discussion topics will focus on challenges and opportunities for building supply and demand of responsible labor recruitment from Kenya to Qatar.
